Lakes Estates I & II (aka Lakes Estates) is a subdivision of The Lakes of Sarasota,(referred to by entrance signage as The Lakes) a larger deed-restricted community of 278 homes in Sarasota, Florida, located on McIntosh Road just south of Bahia Vista. The area comprises five lakes, quiet homes, mature palms and massive oaks draped with Spanish moss which lend a Southern-style aura to the neighborhood. The community has many amenities, including its location--it is close to both downtown Sarasota and to Interstate-75, the major route along the western Florida corridor.
The Home Owners Association Board of Lakes Estates I & II (Lakes Estates) meets the third Thursday of every month at 6 pm at the clubhouse on Cottonwood Trail and is open for residents to attend.
Home styles are mostly Florida ranch. Built in the 1980s, some of them have been updated by adding designer touches in kitchens, bathrooms and native landscaping.
The Lakes of Sarasota (The Lakes) have two community pools with attendant clubhouses.
The Western most clubhouse on Cottonwood Trail has a heated pool and spa. It also has indoor facilities that can be rented for private affairs (no commercial uses). This clubhouse has a kitchen, library, restrooms, meeting room, and picnic deck with a gas grill. Examples of recent affairs include prayer groups, birthday parties, and wedding receptions. Charge: $50 with a $200 deposit.
The Eastern most clubhouse is situated on Suwannee Drive (off Trails Drive). This facility includes includes a weight room, two restrooms (indoor showers in each), two lighted tennis courts, an outdoor gas grill, picnic deck, a playground with swing set, lighted half-court basketball area, a spa and an unheated open-air swimming pool. It may be rented for private affairs (no commercial uses). Examples of recent affairs include birthday parties and wedding receptions. Charge: $50 plus a $200 refundable damage deposit.
The Lakes of Sarasota (The Lakes) is maintained by the following homeowners associations (HOAs) and their constituencies.
* Lakes Estates I & II (aka Lakes Estates) (101 homes)
* Lakes Estates III (89 homes)
* Timberlakes (46 homes)
* Condos (42 villa-type condos)
* Additionally, the president and vice president of each of the listed HOA's comprise The Lakes Maintenance Association which has responsibility for funding and maintenance (through fees assessed on the 4 HOA's) the following: the clubhouse and recreation centers, the loop road, including signage and lighting, the entrance walls and McIntosh berm, and the northeast half of the large lake including the gazebo, fountain, and maintenance shed.
Thus far the Lakes Estates I & II (Lakes Estates) is the only HOA maintaining a website.
The Lakes Estates I & II, Lakes Estates III and Timberlakes HOA's and the Maintenance Board are represented by Argus Property Management, WWW.Argusmgnt.com. The Condos have their own seperate management company for their needs. All homeowners must belong to one of the Homeowner's Associations.
